Is Core i5 Good for Gaming in 2022? Intel Tales

Is Core i5 Good for Gaming in 2022? Introduced in 2009, the Intel Core i5 currently powers many mid-range laptops on the market. They’ve recently announced their 12th generation, which is expected to show an evolution of this processor in order to keep up with increasing demand from the general public – including gamers. Is this processor good for games though? Let’s explore.

This is a generational thing

A CPU can generally be categorized by its release year (or the preceding). During 2009 and 2010, Intel released its first two generations of Core i5.

Later on, other generations followed suit until we reached the current 11th and 12th core processors that are even capable of using AI which is compatible with the Intel CPUs themselves.

However, not every generation provides enough power for game playing – so don’t bother buying an older laptop or PC with said capabilities if you want to game.

As a matter of fact, one might say that these lower-end generations weren’t made to the game at all; they just aren’t up to snuff when it comes to the graphical capability or speed needed for such intense tasks.

Benchmarking: What you need to know

What would happen if we don’t use our old methods?

This is a tough question that only you can answer, but it might be worth taking into consideration some benchmarks.

When comparing different games, one example would be PassMark’s benchmark – which offers an accurate portrayal of how powerful the CPU (central processing unit) really is.

Currently sitting atop the leaderboard: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with 46,165 points. Wow! At $700 USD plus tax and shipping though, this isn’t something that most people could afford – so keep in mind before purchasing anything gaming related for yourself or others!

There is no better processor than Intel Core i5-10600K

On the list of processors I mentioned before, the Intel Core i5-10600K is ruling the Core i5 CPU gamut. This one runs at a clock speed of 4.10GHz with 6 cores and 12 threads.

Add about 16GB of RAM to it with an adequate graphics card (or even without) and it will handle anything you throw at it with no problem.

The only thing worth mentioning here is that this list isn’t up to date because there have been some changes since then – but from what we’ve seen so far these CPUs are performing just fine in comparison to everything else out there.

Case in point: both the Core i5-10600K (and its predecessor) beat out every other processor on this list when it comes to performance scores – including the Core i7-9700K; which is why we’ll call them gaming CPUs while they’re still available.

Are there any 11th and 12th-generation descendants?

The 10600K version outshines any other generations, including the 11th. The Intel Core i5-1135G7 @ 2.4GHz still falls below the Core i7-1165G7 2.8GHz—and even behind the Intel Core i5-9600K @ 3.7GHz rank too.

With all these numbers and terms thrown around, you may feel lost, but there is one thing you need to understand before we go further: clock speed can greatly affect how powerful a CPU might be, no matter what generation it is from.

Go for the Clockspeed

As I said, the speed of a CPU for gaming is all about its clock rate. That means that you don’t need an older Core i5 with a ton of clock speed because they just don’t exist. When you go up in generation number, you can run newer games easier.

It also means that there will be better support from Windows when it comes to upgrading to Windows 11 or something like that; which would affect things like your i3 models being discontinued and even cut off from upgrades entirely.

In conclusion, it would probably make sense to get a Core i5 10th gen CPU at a 4.1 GHz clock rate instead of an 11th gen one at a 2.4 GHz clock speed – otherwise, you’re really missing out!

Graphics Cards: What You Need to Know

Though you may purchase the newest laptop with an excellent CPU – or build a PC to create one – without the right graphics card, you’ll never be able to play AAA titles with your full heart. Why? It’s simple math.

Games are graphic-intensive and they need specific processors dedicated to them in order to run at peak performance.

However, in order for those cards to reach their fullest potential, it is necessary that the computer also has an equally strong processor; because when combined together, these two parts enable each other to work better than ever before.

For example: If your current device has an Intel Core i5 4th generation with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (but only 8GB of RAM), then no matter how high-resolution the game itself would otherwise be (or even if it were 1080p), it will suffer from minor frame rate drops and stuttering anyway–making it difficult for players trying to play games on this system.

On the other hand, if you use an Intel Core i5 10th Generation processor, then your gameplay experience will be much more improved.

When it comes to choosing what GPU is best for gaming – my favorite option would have to be the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, RTX 3080/3080 Ti, GeForce RTX 3060/3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, or Radeon RX 6800 (for those who are on a budget).

All of these cards are able to provide an enjoyable gameplay experience in games such as GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, or Hitman 3 – all with very playable frame rates.

Do Core i5s work well for gaming?

With the list of CPUs mentioned above and how it fares with other processors on the market, you can answer that question by yourself. But if we’re talking about the latest generations of Intel Core i5 – absolutely yes!

The prices are relatively affordable and they will give you the ability to do more at home or work without being bogged down.

If you want to game but don’t care about spending money, I’d recommend going for a CPU that is higher than the Core i5-10600K; although its specs may be slightly lower (since these offer maximum performance), its average cost is much cheaper – making this still an excellent purchase option.

In 2022, will the i5 be a good gaming processor?

If you want to game in 2022, I recommend the latest Intel Core i5 processor but make sure to buy a good GPU too because your integrated graphics card isn’t suited for gaming.

How does Ryzen 5 compare to i5?

The AMD Ryzen 5 has more cores than the Intel i5. Older generations of both brands usually have less cache size compared to newer models of each respective brand.

How does Ryzen compare to Intel when it comes to gaming?

AMD Ryzen outperforms Intel Processors when it comes to Benchmarking because Intel needs improvement to catch up with their AMD rivals.
