How To Replace USB Port On Laptop? Step By Step

How To Replace USB Port On Laptop? Step By Step

How To Replace USB Port On Laptop? It has been said that the eyes are the window to our souls which makes sense seeing as how all USB ports function similarly – they’re gateways between your computer or laptop and external devices.

Information is relayed back and forth when necessary to ensure everything works together.

When a connection is cut off without warning, sometimes no matter what the reasons are, an error occurs and external devices can’t establish any connections.

Your priority should be to repair this issue as soon as possible before it becomes permanent- or you’ll end up with an empty laptop that doesn’t have enough ports!

In this short guide, we’ll tell you about how a USB port could get damaged so badly that it ceases to work and show you step-by-step instructions for replacing a faulty one on your laptop.

Why USB Ports Malfunctions

Though these ports are well-made, they may act out at times due to a few factors. These might include (1)

  • Damaged Pins
  • Janky Cable Connection
  • Dust And Debris Stuck On the Port
  • Short Circuit

 Checking For Malfunctions

Before proceeding to the steps, ensure your issue isn’t a false positive and rather an actual one by stress-testing it against multiple other external peripherals.

A USB port could be of many different types but they all follow certain parameters when being tested, so below are instructions on how to do so.

Make sure you plug in your storage device or any other cable firmly without applying too much pressure.

Now, it will send a signal to your laptop which should show an error if the USB port has some type of issue – USB Device Cannot Be Recognized.

Remove the connection and try plugging it into another port; if it does not show this error message again, then this one specific port could have an issue instead of just the peripheral devices being used.

Turning off your laptop and turning it back on again, along with repeating these steps can eliminate any possible software glitches you might be experiencing.

Once confirmed, move on to fixing the said problem!

 Laptop USB Port Replacement Steps

Before we continue onwards, kindly remember that any mistakes made may result in more damage to the system or even brick it.  A local repair shop should be contacted.

If the product is under warranty, then it’s always best if your original manufacturer fixes it because in this way you won’t have to spend extra money.

However, you can still proceed without assistance if you wish.

First, find the back panel screws by referring to your laptop’s manual or its exterior. With a Phillips head screwdriver, carefully unscrew all the screws that hold your laptop in place and remove the back piece.

Now look for where the USB port is located (it will have wires attached and running up to the motherboard) – If there are any cables that seem disconnected, connect them again with solder if possible – If they need to be replaced entirely, then simply take out PCC Slot which houses this specific USB Port and swap it out for another available one off of the shelf at a computer store near you; but please do not purchase an incompatible PCC Slot.

Once you’ve made sure everything is securely put together again, reconnect it to power just in case anything else needed charging while being repaired; turn on your laptop when finished testing it.

Final Thoughts

There are certain tasks in life that take great patience, focus, and willpower; fixing your laptop may be one of them due to how complex it can be for us mere mortals.

One small slip-up can lead to disaster – but thankfully my guide on replacing a broken USB port will serve as an illuminating beam of hope for those who would otherwise find themselves lost in the dark.

Though it is ultimately up to you what precautions you decide to take, there are several simple steps outlined below that should prove extremely helpful regardless.
