How Much Does A TV Weigh? [ 2022 – 2023 ]

How Much Does A TV Weigh? TVs or TVs (which many people refer to them as) have been the prime source of digital entertainment for quite a long time.

These joyous yet complicated machines date back to 1920 when they were first introduced to our society as a medium for all sorts of information such as news, drama, culture, and sports.

But now – just like how we evolved in terms of entertainment – human beings are craving convenience too so these boxes of complex machinery had to make themselves thinner; shrinking down smaller than they ever used to be.

And over the course of many years—which, for the sake of transparency, is decades if you really want to know—television became one-half the size of your index finger. In spite of this reduction in its physical size, however, television still carries a certain weight with it.

For this reason (among others), if you’re curious about how much televisions generally weigh these days (especially given their reduced heft), buckle up! Because we’re going on an informative ride that will teach us everything there is to know about different sizes and weights of TVs.

History Of Television

When first invented, televisions weighed nearly half a ton (904 pounds), their dimensions so large that they required plenty of space.

Initially, these TVs were called CRT or Cathode Ray Tube TVs. These models contained a cathode tube that combined light rays and the right wavelength of colors to create images or videos on the screen.

When it comes to weight, there was no difference between what came before and after transitions from black-and-white televisions to color formats—even though some might say otherwise.

So How Much Does A TV Weigh Exactly?

Now that you know a little bit about television, we shouldn’t overlook its past because it’s time to address the true question- how much do they weigh these days?

You see, the truth is, you’ll want to find out this information before trying to navigate certain terrain so you can calculate your shipping costs.

And fortunately for us all, here is a breakdown of their weights and what kinds there are. In general, there are three kinds of TVs sold in stores around the world today.

  • Plasma TV
  • LCD TV
  • LED TV

1. Plasma Televisions

This is one of the earliest versions of the modern era TVs, as the name suggests, these televisions have a plasma-like gas such as phosphor enclosed into a thin layer of glass with a small compartment that houses each color (red, green, blue) specifically.

Each individual pixel on this screen – which is coated with a chemiluminescent chemical – creates its own wavelength of colors to be displayed on the television screens via plasma technology.

Plasma TVs typically weigh about 15-20 kilograms and are cumbersome to carry around because they’re delicate due to their particular materials being used in them; handle these devices carefully when carrying them over long distances.

2. LCD Television

Despite the prevalence of liquid crystal displays, they will most likely become outdated in just five years because newer technologies roll out continuously.

Consisting of two sheets of either glass or plastic that act as a layer and are coated with polymers, these colors are also subdivided into red, green, and blue – dubbed RGB for perfect images without unnatural coloring.

3. LED Television

LED or Light Emitting Diodes offer all the latest technological advancements, such as being considered the newest form of television.

In a LED TV, light is formed from photons through the release of volts when P-type semiconductors work in conjunction with electrons from N-type semiconductors.

This new type of TV weighs significantly less – some coming in at just seven pounds, making it easy to transport and install wherever you want it!

Mounting Stand

A lot of TVs these days are either placed on a table or hung on the wall, which means they require their own specialized stands in order to stay upright.

Bigger TVs can be especially tricky because they’re heavy and often need anchor points to keep them from toppling over.

For example, 32-inch screens usually weigh about five to six pounds and come with accompanying nuts and bolts for mounting purposes.

Larger televisions (think 65 inches) range from ten to thirteen pounds and can easily tip over if not anchored down properly – even more so if you’ve got any pets running.

Final Thoughts

You might wonder how much a TV weighs. Well, after reading this article you probably now know exactly what a TV weighs – but not just that, there are many different factors to consider when purchasing an LCD or plasma television including size and weight!
